October 4, 2008, Perris, California, Perris Raceway, 2008 Hot Summer Night Series, Round 10
The chill is in the air signaling the conclusion of the ten round Hot Summer Nights (HSN) series at Perris Raceway. To qualify for series titles and awards, racers had to participate in seven of ten rounds. Thousands of dollars in contingency were offered in the series by Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha, and KTM. We will do a summary of the series and review some of the winning racers, so time to get the show on the road, let's race.
Women: Heather Majcherek of wmnracing.com collaborated with Perris Raceway to establish a separate class structure for Women racers. Generally there is not enough participants to split them into traditional classes like the guys, but with Perris Raceway's approval and Majcherek's intensive phone and internet campaign the Ladies did show in force. There was an average of fifteen Women entrants per round, round two had thirty Women entrants according to Majcherek, with a gathering of four Women Pros that vied for a Pro payout, literally unheard of at local Southern California races. Team Green Kawasaki's/Monster Energy's Tatum Sik was the winner of that race. Sik and fellow Pro Ayla Cabus were on hand at several races to provide camaraderie and support for the other Women competitors.
The Women Beginner class was the largest with an average of seven entrants per round. Lacie Price was the force to be reckoned with finishing on the podium in nine of ten rounds and winning three rounds. Only racing for over a year the Women classes was a perfect place for Price to learn and get her day in the sun. Price is no stranger to dirt biking however having spent many years in the deserts of Southern California, catching her motocross bug at Cal City MX, California City, California. Price is your 2008 HSN Women's Beginner Champion. She would like to thank Pacific Motorsports, Suspension Racing, and Factory Effex.
Lauren Hammond was a mere six points behind Price in the run for the title. Finishing second place she gathered three wins and provided a good show for spectators with her helmet mounted bunny ears and ripping her Yamaha YZ85 around Perris Raceway.
Third place HSN series finisher Lindsey Didlake has been racing for over a year also and battled hard all series finishing on the box in seven of ten rounds. Straddling a Suzuki RM85 Didlake plans on continuing to race locally and would like to thank 661, Osiris, and Sunline.
Majcherek would like to thank Perris Raceway for their cooperation and the supporting sponsors, but most importantly all the ladies that participated and came to have fun and support the cause. "Girl Power" is alive and well and hopefully coming to a raceway near you.
